History
Thank you and welcome to our site!
In 1966, a very courageous young man by the name of Diogenis “Danny” Athanasiadis came to the United States from Thessaloniki, Greece. Danny left his family in Greece to make a better life for himself, through opportunity and college. He studied at IIT in Chicago, Illinois. He majored in Mechanical Engineering, through hard work, determination and dreams; he learned the English language and worked fulltime in restaurants, when opportunity knocked on Danny’s door in 1971, in Chicago, Illinois. He found out through his best friend, a gas station was for sale. He quickly hurried over to the gas station location and purchased the gas station with his best friend. Danny’s determination brought him to more opportunities in the Chicagoland area; he eventually opened up multiple Auto Supply Stores, more gas stations, Repair Shops and much, much more!
Eventually, Danny went through very hard times with his empire, and like all businesses, decisions needed to be made and circumstances came up, Danny sold out and moved to Frankfort, Illinois, where he had a warehouse filled with Brake CALIPERS! Business was going strong for Danny in 1996 as he tried to revamp his dreams, until it came to an end in December 1996, where a fire broke out in the warehouse. The flames were high; it was a 5-alarm fire. Danny and his wife quickly started over for the 4th time and Danny came up with the name “Phoenix”, because he had a strong belief that he and his family were going to be ok in the end. For those of you who do not know what Phoenix means, it is a bird that came out of the fire. Calipers became his focus and Phoenix Brake Co. was finally established in September 1997.
With years of experience and knowledge about the mechanics, Danny started out with calipers and master cylinders, where eventually, he took on brake pads and stopped the master cylinders. He worked 7 days a week to provide his customers with QUALITY and timely service. His customers were his focus. As the years went on, Danny’s son, Thanasi, wanted to follow in his father footsteps. Soon, Thanasi was managing the company, while Danny was taking care of his customers on the road. On the road to success, Danny was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in 2003. He fought for his life and for his family. Going though heart wrenching Chemo Therapy, Danny still managed to go to Phoenix everyday, to make sure his son was doing everything perfect. In the summer of 2004, Danny was told he was going through remission and he beat Cancer. Danny and his son took on new projects, new customers, new ideas, and revitalized the brake business. They together were a tight team. In the summer of 2006, Danny was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer that had traveled to his liver. He started chemotherapy immediately and it just was not looking good for this selfless, determined and excellent man, Danny left us on December 12th, 2006. Danny knew his son was going to take care of his customers and was as determined and well trained as he was. The baton was passed to Thanasi and Danny’s daughter, Sophi.
Present Time:
We are here and ready to continue the dream of our father. Danny wasn’t done and he made this all very clear to his children. We are still servicing the entire Chicagoland area, with the same mindset as Danny, QUALITY, PRICE and most importantly, SERVICE. We rebuild the majority of brake calipers, from Import/Domestic Passenger vehicles and trucks to heavy-duty equipment, such as Dumploaders, International trucks. WE USE QUALITY O.E. PARTS THAT ARE SAME OR BETTER QUALITY.
